Review: Blayze vs. Pitt (BGEast)

Me and my big mouth. When I talked about Blayze vs. Pitt back in November, I said, "I'll definitely review it when I get the chance, for good or bad."

Well, I'm sad to say it's "for bad".

A 31-minute tease that goes nowhere

If you want to see these guys trade holds and moves for 28 minutes, you might like this. The guys spend almost three minutes in the gym discussing their losing records because of heel cheating. This is weird, as Blayze has a 2-2 record and neither of his losses were driven by excessive cheating.

They decide to compare holds to see if they can help each other. It's a long 4 minutes before they lock up in the ring. It starts friendly, you're just waiting for things to get heated.

They trade slams

Nelsons

Crabs

At the end of the catalogue description, they ask a couple of questions ...
"One might expect tempers to eventually flair or for one of these good-natured wrestlers to have their naivety taken advantage of as one or the other goes to the dark side. Will Blayze's southern charm give way to a devious side, as he finally takes the low-road that so many of his opponents have taken? Will Mike's youthful optimism finally give way to a dastardly play to come out on top by any means necessary?"
Sadly and unbelievably, the answer is "No."

While the description tries valiantly to play up the angle that this is a unique look at a behind the scenes training session, the series is called "Babyface Brawl". There's no brawl here. There's not even a match. There are only brief signs of temper that dissipate quickly. There's no winner and ultimately, the entire endeavor is a disappointment.

It all looks very good in clips

But looks can be deceiving

It's like a collection of poses

I can see why BGEast held onto this for years. It's literally all setup for something that could be fun, but the fun never starts. They actually ride the premise of this being "practice" between two jobbers throughout the entire video. Even the teased "very special surprise appearance by one of BG East's most notorious heels" is just a quick joke by the fully clothed heel at the jobbers' expense.

The jobbers actually knock each out. What?!?

Sorry Trent, this is a terrible way to end your BGE career.

Oh well, I'll always have Blayze/Darius, Blayze/Mayne and Pitt/Barzini!

  1. Agree completely, Alex! There is nothing worse than having all the parts in place, and never having them amount to much. I wish (some) producers would realize that it is the chemistry and the wrestling that drive the homo-erotic love of wrestling. Great bodies, skimpy shorts and good editing are nice, too. But they will never turn into a great, repeat watching-worthy work of art if the opponents don't make it into a good match.

On a separate note, BG East is the worst about holding onto matches for years and then releasing them. I always assume a match shot clearly years earlier was not released for a reason.

    1. Thanks for the comment! This definitely had all the ingredients to be a good match. They just forgot the match.
