Review: Marcus Ares vs. Axel (UCW)

And here we are with the final of my Marcus Ares reviews.

Ares vs. Axel

This match is probably my favorite of the three. Both guys look great and Axel's gear really shows off his ... assets.

Patterned trunks obscure the view
So Axel easily wins the battle of the bulge

Maybe you haven't been excited to see a guy be so unstoppable. Maybe you like back-and-forth. Maybe you just want a guy who really sells what his opponent is doing. I get it. Normally, I'm not a fan of 'no-sellers' (guys who act like nothing hurts them), either.

This match might be the match for you. It is by far the most competitive of the three matches. It's really back-and-forth. Ares still 'no-sells' some moves, but Axel still manages to push him, working him into great positions.

This match shows that Ares really is perfect for UCW. Axel gets rough with the big stud. We see the crotch work, but also some great gut punching and submission holds.

You get long-held holds where Ares is suffering. There are moments where you could even see him tap, like the figure-four leglock. After all, Axel keeps talking about the title and you know he has it and Ares doesn't. So maybe this is how that's resolved?

Overall, this was the winner for me. All three are great. All three provide tremendous value, good video quality and the kind of non-stop action you expect from UCW. However, it's the back-and-forth nature of this one that puts it at the head of my list. Axel and Ares could have a great rivalry, if they just get the big guy back.

Interestingly, Ares is UCW's Twitter icon. Hopefully that means he will come back some day soon and is just on a hiatus or something.

This wraps up the Ares series of posts. I hope you liked them. I've covered the squash, the fun one and the competitive match. What do you think? Are you a fan? Which is/would be your favorite? If Ares does come back, what would you look for from the handsome hunk?

Please let me know in the comments!

Alex

  1. Finger crossed on Marcus Ares coming back. If he comes back, I hope to see more of him taking. I think he is at best when he really struggles against some of his tougher opponents.

I am not a huge fan of Eli Black either, but there is a good bit of back and forth going on in that match. It may be worth checking out if you are a fan of Ares.

    1. Thanks for the tip on the Eli match. The video preview makes it look like Eli gets squashed (I don't remember it showing one offensive move from Eli), but if it's somewhat back-and-forth, I might actually like it.

    2. I had the same concern, but it's more evenly matched than I was anticipating!

  2. revisiting this hot match. the champ, confident, breaks in all the new rookies, skilled, top of his game vs the bigger muscled rookie. skill vs brute power. hot combination.
