Review: Ty Alexander vs. Toney Rico (BGEast)

I've finished watching the Ty Alexander Wrestling Spotlight. We take a big leap forward in time. From the twinky jobber Ty to beefed up Trophy Boy Ty, the compilation features a great range from complete squash to a mostly squash to a truly competitive match. So they're all cool, but Ty Alexander vs. Toney Rico features my favorite Ty incarnation at BGEast.

Question is, can the match live up to my lofty expectations?

The Trophy Boy fulfills his potential

It's gold versus silver as Ty "Trophy Boy" Alexander takes on rookie Toney Rico. I love when even the gear tells a story. There's a lot of personality-driven tension from the start and it only gets higher and higher. By the end, one guy is claiming the other's trunks, leaving the loser unconscious and exposed.

This is a recent match, based on Ty's build, body hair and self-assured confidence. The newbie's a mature stud, built for pro action. Together, they're a good match physically, so I'm glad there's no jobber in this match. Toney's a lucky guy, getting broken in by two of the cockiest punk heels at BGEast. Early on, Ty's got all the attitude, but as we saw against "Charming As Fuck" Chase Addams, Toney's like a simmering cauldron.

Ty wants everyone to look at his pride and joy.

Trophy's are meant to be displayed.

Who's the jobber now?

This is the BEST "Trophy Boy" match, yet. Ty's tag match was the undisputed best match of 2016. I can say 'undisputed' based on four bloggers raving about it, plus it won the top match awards at the Caveys then at BESTIEs. I'm not saying this is better than that classic, but it's definitely the match that best delivers on the true potential of the 'Trophy Boy' persona.

Ty plays the cocky, self-absorbed heel perfectly. He fully controls the narrative. I haven't thought of Ty as a jobber for a while. This is the match that should convert you few last holdouts. He's convincing as the dominant dude, bringing the pain and punishment for most of the match. Yes, he receives punishment, but that's not how I define a jobber.

No soft landing for this big slam.

Can silver top gold?

Toney tries to earn a trophy.

The wrestling is stellar for most of the 40 minutes. The action is pro quality, the best you'll see in the gay-oriented space. It flows logically like the best pro matches. The holds are tight, the moves are smooth and the drama is both fun and intense. You get a ton of moves, without needless repetition. And both guys know their stuff, giving and taking like they've worked together for years. It's completely competitive, back-and-forth to the end.

Ty takes it to Toney's chest.

Toney delivers a double dose of fan service with
one of my favorite moves while showing off Ty's butt.

Now that's a hot move.

In the end, this match was my favorite of the three on the Spotlight. While Austin and Enzi were great opponents, this is Ty at his best where he's fully evolved into a superstar. I love his look here, his attitude, but mostly, I love seeing Ty in the primary role. Deservedly confident, he leads the action throughout this match. Rico is better for the experience and we're better for having watched it.

What are other bloggers saying?

So that's my take. What's yours?

Alex

    1. Thanks! Yeah, this one was a scorcher for sure.

It's such a great evolution for Ty. I know BGEast releases things out of order all the time and for every wrestler, but now I don't really want to see him go back to being a skinny 100% jobber.
