Review: Ace Owens vs. Scrappy (Wrestler4Hire)

Scrappy won my 2017 Cavey for Favorite Wrestler and now he's spreading his incredibly wide lats and flying over to Wrestler4Hire. He did this a while ago, but Ace Owens vs. Scrappy is the first time one of his matches made it to streaming. Naturally, I had to check it out immediately to see how things go with W4H Scrappy vs. Thunders Arena Scrappy.

Scrappy gets introduced to new surroundings.

Scrappy certainly looks the same. I love his fireplug physique with wide shoulders, strong torso, big biceps and thick legs. His choice of gear is the same, selecting small yellow posers that show off his powerful body. And personality-wise, Scrappy is the same cocky punk we know and love as he looks at taking on new competition.

And what competition. It's adorable pro wrestling cutie Ace Owens, sporting a shaggy mop and irrepressible attitude. The pro is attired in perfect purple trunks, his smooth body a lean contrast to Scrappy's mighty muscles. I like that Ace is not a Thunders-style muscle stud. He's hot in a different way, which helps this feel like something unique.

Same old Scrappy.

Ace knows how to use what he's got.

That's our gorgeous fireplug.

From my Q&A with Cameron, I know we disagree on the definition of Pro and Joe, but for me, this is a Pro vs. Joe meeting. Regardless of what you call them, I think we can all agree that there's a contrast here between a rising indie star and a muscular underground superstar. So with the looks and experience differences, I was expecting to be entertained.

And the guys do not disappoint me. They're sexy, but more importantly, they're talented. It's back-and-forth and both guys own the role their in at any moment. Scrappy has the muscles, but Ace has a height advantage and has done well against more muscular men before. Scrappy's evil smirk appears frequently and Ace's charming smile shows up, too. There's some banter and cocky chatter as you'd expect.

Scrappy always was a pec-man.

Sell it, baby.

A mat and a sofa? Scrappy's right at home.

Ace has a few tricks.

Action-wise, the wrestlers make the most of the non-traditional space in the 19-minute video. It's mostly mat work and there are no big power moves. The submission holds are held for a long time, allowing you to savor them. You get a taste of things here. There's more, like crabs and bearhugs, but it's all in this general direction.

There's the power we know and love.

Oh, don't sleep on the indie pro, Scrappy.

Same to you, Ace, although maybe I'm too late.

In the end, Scrappy makes a good transition to new surroundings, keeping things familiar while going against a different type of opponent. This video isn't going to change your life or the industry, but it's a good one. I'm looking forward to seeing more from both guys wherever they wrestle. Scrappy has some W4H superhero stuff, so fingers-crossed that comes to streaming.

So that's my take. What's yours?

Alex
