Review: Braden Charron vs. Cameron Matthews (Wrestler4Hire)

When big stars wrestle, you can go a few ways with the story. When those guys are friends and former roommates, making it a fun showcase for their skills seems like a great way to go. That's the approach Wrestler4Hire takes with Braden Charron vs. Cameron Matthews takes and it works really nicely.

Buddies take to the ring, leaving their friendship outside.

When you're a wrestler, it makes sense you'd wrestle around with your friends for fun and recreation. And if you own a wrestling video company, it makes sense that you'd film your play time and sell it. Not surprisingly, these two have a casual chemistry. As former roommates, they are comfortable with each other and seem to enjoy wrestling together.

Braden is looking amazing in shiny pink. He's huge, but with definition. Cameron insults the bodybuilder's conditioning, but we can all see the truth. Meanwhile, Braden teases Cameron right back for his baby face. It's all pretty fun, but sets up a simple dynamic. Fortunately, it doesn't take long before the guys are wrestling (after two minutes of posing and bantering).

Pro wrestling skills can't save Cameron now.

Bodybuilders are inflexible, so these holds really hurt.

All jobbers know that they need
to reach for the sky in futility.

Since both these guys have a long resume of jobbing and a shorter resume of heeling, I wasn't sure what exactly would happen. Turns out, we get the best of all worlds with both guys jobbing, both guys dominating and a little back-and-forth. This actually follows a similar pattern to a match that I just reviewed and I like the pacing for the same reasons.

Like Scrappy vs. Joey, this match is divided into three acts. Act I is 10-minutes of squash with the bodybuilder beating down the pro wrestler. Act II is an 11-minute squash the other way. The final act settles the score with Braden briefly fighting back and Cameron fending off his resurgence. The loser is knocked out and flexed over while he sleeps.

I think the ropes would actually decrease the force,
but in pro wrestling physics need not apply.

Bend it like Braden.

This is a like a logo pose, it's so perfect.

Action-wise, it makes sense, too. Braden uses his incredible power to dominate with bearhugs, scissors and power moves. As the lighter guy and the pro wrestler, Cameron uses more holds like sleepers and ab stretches, and he skillfully uses the ropes to punish the bodybuilder. This all puts Braden's big muscles on display as he sells the pain Cameron dishes out.

I bet it feels like being crushed by a real bear.

I can't explain how the ropes change a sleeper,
they just do.

Braden knows how to slam;
Cameron knows how to sell it.

In the end, this is a compelling battle of the besties that is fun and does showcase their skills. If you like big men jobbing, you'll enjoy Cameron punishing Braden. But if you're the type who likes bodybuilders dominating, the first ten minutes is built just for you. And if you're like me and you like both, well, this is like a twofer.

So that's my take. What's yours?

Alex

    1. Yeah, it’s great he can do both. I’m always down (or up, more accurately) for more Cameron.
