Review: Steve Mason vs. Ivan Guerrero (Hunks Wrestling)

Iván Guerrero could be my new favorite thing in the world, replacing the Happy Endings reunion special which had a good four-day run. He's smoking hot but my ever-changing NFTITW designation is about way more than that. He's got a cool detached self-confidence that's sexy and scary. His smirking smugness and condescension would probably be irritating in real life, but in a wrestling video, it's hot as fuck. I wish I understood everything he says. HW subtitles the plot-driving bits but I feel like every word from his mouth is likely a gem of pure bitchy dismissiveness.

for when he picked up my man Iván.

Steve Mason vs. Iván Guerrero has a storyline (one that I have actually used). The first five minutes are the meeting. There are cuts to each guy jogging along. Iván stops at the beach. He peels off his jacket to reveal his bulging arms. He does some pull-ups and dips, pumping his impressive upper body. Steve arrives at the beach, sees him and, being a man, is immediately drawn to him.

Steve starts asking the sexy hunk about his workout routine. Standard pickup stuff. Iván casually explains that it's easy for him to have big muscles, but is clearly skeptical that the scruffy stud could do much about his own. Steve swings the conversation to sports, bragging that he's been fighting for five years. Iván hasn't, but he knows that he'd be great at it. Oh yes, everything is so just easy for you, Iván. When Steve gets cocky about his own skills to take down bigger musclemen, the hunk plays right along, asking where they can go.

Nice cho - oh. So much for that idea.

given how casually he gets up.

The next seven minutes is some "training" in the mat room, shirtless in pants. Steve takes Iván down, showing him a move then Iván uses his power to get some revenge. Just past the 12-minute mark, the guys strip down to speedos and 24 minutes of wrestling starts. Iván is unimpressed by Steve's boasting, confidently declaring that fighting is learned on the streets. He smirks that Steve is not strong enough to beat a real lion. So, can skill beat power? Those five years must count for something, right?

Iván is gorgeous. End of statement.

Turns out, Iván's right.

The inexperienced muscle hunk basically overpowers the smaller stud repeatedly, breaking out of holds and learning enough along the way to finish the match with a choke hold he just learned and the same calm ruthlessness he's shown all along. His final scene is looking down at Steve's unconscious carcass with a sexy smirk and complete disdain for the five-year fighter.

Action-wise, this is a fast-paced mat match made up of a series of mini-scenes (lockup, hold, escape, Iván arrogantly waiting for Steve to get off his ass to go again). Steve is exhausted, Iván probably did a full workout afterwards. All the images I chose come from the first eight minutes of the wrestling section (there's another 15-16 minutes after this with bearhugs, chokes, a rack, and lots more grappling).

Iván does get maneuvered and displayed in sexy holds. Yum. But he doesn't get controlled, at least not for long. The newbie knows how to use his muscles, fists and thick forearms, plus whatever moves he's picked up on the streets (although I don't know how "street" bearhugs and racks are). I love how the rookie frequently adds in a hard body shot after he escapes, just to make it hurt more.

In the end, I really enjoyed this. The storyline is great but the chemistry and performances really elevate it. The interplay is great and there's a palpable heat between them. Steve does a great job, well, jobbing for the newcomer. Iván is a freaking super-hunk and he so obviously knows it. I'd love to hate Iván, but frankly, I simply love him too much for that.
