Review: Joey McCoy vs. Quin Quire (Muscleboy Wrestling)

Full disclosure: This video was sent to me by Muscleboy Wrestling.

I don't know if it's just me, but a lot of gay wrestling videos aren't great right now. I almost had nothing to review today. It's not because I have nothing on my hard drive. It's just that nothing was inspiring me. I've watched a bunch of perfectly cromulent videos, but none of them rose (or fell) to the level of being interesting enough (or bad enough) to talk about.

In a last ditch attempt to find something for a Monday post, I decided to focus my attention this weekend on MBW and BGEast, since they've been the most reliable so far in 2019. And it worked. I watched two great videos, starting with this one.

All right, boys, give me something to talk about.

Joey McCoy vs. Quin Quire is a battle of the jobbers, but these two are very different kinds of jobbers. They're both lean and ripped, but Joey McCoy is a physical mini-me for Quin Quire. Listed at 6" shorter and 35-lbs lighter, the difference looks like more to me. Joey is energetic, eager and cocky, while Quin is quietly confident as he literally looks down on his opponent.

I know some guys can't wrap their heads around little guys challenging bigger guys, but this on has an answer for that. See, Joey is also a pro-trained wrestler, while Quin comes to MBW via the porn side of their recruiting. If you believe that skill and training mean anything (and I do), you can see how a zippy little expert like Joey could hang with a novice like Quin.

Quin's hoping for a win.

But Joey came to fight.

So adorable.

So far, I've watched Quin lose well to two of MBW's biggest and sexiest hairy muscle hunks - Derek Bolt and Alex Costa. I'm sure it was pretty refreshing for him to see Joey. However well the handsome porn star did against those beefcakes, though, I'm not sure they properly prepped him to face the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

This is back-and-forth until the end and has a definitive winner. I appreciate that MBW doesn't do a lot of 100% non-competitive squashes, which I feel would be the temptation of other producers when you have a small guy who's a champion pain-seller like Joey. We still get to see him work, but he's so good dishing out the abuse, too.

I wasn't exactly sure what images to pull, because I really wanted some of the opening face-off, but that meant I'd lose a couple of action shots. Last-minute blogging is hard.

Joey's not afraid.

Maybe he should be.

Or maybe he shouldn't be.

Action-wise, this is a fun and fast mat battle. It's mostly mat work with a little body punching and a few power moves. Things are messy at the start, but I found it fit the pro vs. joe dynamic between them. They settle down and the action is exciting. Joey's a dynamo, whether he's giving or receiving. I love how expressive his face is. It borders on over-acting, but he's just so darn cute. Quin's really embraced the wrestling scene, which is great to see.

Joey knows what we like to see.

Speed and experience are a powerful combination.

Hm, somebody ate his spinach before this match.

In the end, I really got into this one. I would've been fine with anything that let their personalities shine (except maybe a squash ... Joey's too much of a fighter for that), but this really delivered as a video. The action works and I enjoy seeing how all the contrasts played out into a fierce non-stop battle.

What are other bloggers saying?

So that's my take. What's yours?

Alex
