The Cave: The Road to El Paso 5 (Buck vs. Keith)

BEAU'S TRUCK. THE FUTURE FARMS. EL PASO.

“See you in a bit, Buck. Shouldn’t take long for me to pack up.”

I wave, knowing that’s a lie. Beau heads off to pick up his stuff, but I’m not going because he doesn’t want me there when he sees his brother Toby again. During our 4-hour car ride here from Dusty’s, I argued multiple times that I should handle this for him or at least go with him. Beau wouldn’t hear it. He wants to do it himself. He knows it will be drama. He knows Toby will provoke him. But he says he can deal with it without losing his temper. I hope he’s right.

I really doubt he's right. But I get it. I never had a brother, but even I know that sometimes, brothers gotta handle their own business. (To see how the brothers handle their business, read The Cave: The Road to El Paso 4)

The Cave: The Road to El Paso 1 (Buck vs. Jorge)

PREVIOUSLY IN THE CAVE ...

TODAY: THE DUSTY INN. ARIZONA.

“EL PASO! How the fuck are you doing, big man?”

Beau (aka El Paso around here) answers coolly, “Oh. Hey, Lee.”

The Cave Unleashed 13: Beau vs. Buck vs. Foster Longhorn

Backstage: After the Foster Longhorn Concert

“That was incredible. ‘Preciate the invite, Buck.”

“You’re welcome, Beau. Nice to hang with another country music fan. Haven’t met any in LA, yet. And, selfishly, you kept me from feeling like a third wheel with Brody and Ram.”

The Cave Unleashed 11: Beau vs. Buck

Cody’s Place. 6:30am.

“Sorry for doing this so early, Buck. Jae and I both have 7:00 clients at the gym.”

“It’s okay, Cody. I’m a farmer. I’m always up at the crack of dawn and I’m still not really on LA time. Why did you - oh.”

The Cave 22: Ryan vs. Buck

The Cave Locker Room

“This has been a long time coming, Buck.”

The beefy farmer smiles in his shy, modest way, “I hope I'm worth the wait, Ryan.”

I grin, “You already are.”

Me.

The Cave Undercard 22: Moneymaker vs. Red Marvel

The Locker Room

“Fuck no.”

“Okay.”

“Okay?”

“Okay.”

Miguel asks suspiciously, “You're not gonna try to change my mind?”

I shrug. “No. Why would I?”

The freshly showered bodybuilder heel goes quiet, but the silence almost echoes in the locker room. His eyes narrow as he tries to figure out my game. Unfortunately for him, he can’t because I'm not playing one. I honestly don't care if he accepts this match or not. I promised that I'd try to set up a match with Miguel for someone and I've done that.

Miguel aka Moneymaker.

The Cave 21: Cody vs. Buck

The Cave Ring

Me. Cody.

“Thanks for the match, Cody. I'm relieved you accepted.”

“Well, I'm relieved that you asked, Buck. Jae's sad he couldn't join us, but he had a client.”

“It's cool. I'll meet up with your boyfriend eventually. I got a lot of time, being on vacation for four months.” The muscular farmer pauses, “You know, I wasn't sure you would accept after how things went down last week.”

Rival Pro Wrestling 2: Cave vs. Country

Narrator: Brody
Location: Rival Pro Wrestling Locker Room

Me. Brody. Getting ready for action.

“So we're all set? Great job maneuvering this, Ramsay.”

As the 6’3”/230-lbs 21-year old hunk strips down, he replies to me, “Thanks, Brody. I ran into Ryan's friend Corey. I learned they knew about Rival. Him and me started talking about how to avoid a feud. It just kind of happened.”

The Cave Undercard 14: City vs. Country

"Oh shit. I don't know if I'm ready for this, Brody."

My buddy just laughs at me, "C'mon Buck. Don't be shy. The guys'll love you. And I mean that literally. Don't go home with anyone without telling me. And don't go into the bedroom or bathroom with anyone without telling me. I know all these guys. I'll protect you from the creeps."

I just stand there, dumbstruck by the beautiful men walking into the house. The street is lined with fancy cars. When we get closer, I hear music is blaring. In the backyard, it looks like there are shirtless waiters, all tanned and ripped. At a house party. When we reach the front door, I ask, "Am I dressed okay? Maybe we should -"

Encounters: Thanksgiving 2015

"So, you're back."

"What was your first clue?" Brody says sarcastically as he stands in my barn, wearing just a white undershirt and a pair of white briefs.
