A note on my reviews

This is probably an answer to a question nobody asked, but I wanted to let you guys know that everything I've reviewed has been a match I personally paid for and decided on my own to talk about.

Please know that any bias I display is purely based on my personal tastes and experience as a customer, not any kind of quid pro quo. If I ever do get anything free or any special favor of any kind from a video producer, I will definitely tell you in the write up. If I review something because someone sends me something or asks me to review it, I will definitely tell you.

I only bring this up because I believe in transparency. I was lucky enough to get an email from a video producer telling me that they'd been seeing traffic from my blogs. That's great. I don't actually use the links in my posts or on the sides of my blogs, so it must be you guys using them. I'm glad that they're proving to be helpful.

They asked if I'd be interested in reviewing matches. I said sure, but that I wasn't looking for anything free as I'd have an issue with that. I want to be objective. To be clear, they didn't offer anything free or any other special consideration, so I might've been overvaluing my own importance. In fact, they might have been thinking, "We weren't offering, you egomaniac. Sheesh."

Anyway, it seemed like a good time to put some clarity out there, early in my blog's life, in case anyone ever wondered. So when you're reading a review, please know that I will have always paid for the match as a regular customer, unless otherwise stated. And I will always have made the decision to review that match on my own, unless otherwise stated.

If you have any questions, please ask in the comments. And if you ever buy a match because of a review of mine, I'd love to know what you thought of it.

"Hey, Brooks!"

"Howdy, Ben! Thanks for coming early."

Brooks invites me into his room then proceeds to strip down. He's laid out a dozen shiny pairs of briefs and wants to get my opinion on what he should wear. Of course, he'll wear them all over the course of the weekend, but he's wondering about what to wear when we wrestle. I point to the pair I like and he slips them on.

I ask, "So how was the drive?"

Brooks gets dramatic, shaking his head, "Man. Rain falling like a cow pissing on a flat rock. Wind that'd blow the warts off a toad. Hail the size of hell and half of Texas. Tornadoes coming at me from every side. I even went off the road once right into a mess a black bears. Had to fight 'em off with my bare hands. But I did it. And all just to wrestle you, buddy."

One Good Link Deserves Another

If you're following the lists at the bottom of my blogs, you've probably noticed that my latest review of Guido Genatto vs. Chet Chastain from BGEast's Fan Fantasy 3 has rocketed to the top of the charts. Not just the past 30 days list, but the all-time list, too!

Now, my previous reviews that involved Guido are top ten posts, so he's clearly a draw. But that's not the only reason.

The poster behind the awesome Tumblr "Fuck Yeah Gay Wrestling" posted a link on a forum post over at Just Us Boys in their 2015 Pro Wrestling thread. The post, which appears at the bottom of page 40 and is quoted at the top of page 41 has driven hundreds of additional views on top of Guido's normal popularity, propelling the post to the top. Now, I don't know if any of the new visitors will read any stories or other posts, but it was fun to see the boost (which I initially thought might be GIF-driven re-reading, as I thought I did a good job with them).

So in the spirit of reciprocity and appreciation, I wanted to say 'thanks' with these links.

Here is the description: The Producer's Ring is a fictional universe, a stark, post-apocalyptic landscape (or another man's view of heaven, depending on how you look at it). Everything comes down to power and money and the commodification of everything, and in particular, male sexuality. Entertaining the bloodthirsty masses is king, and the producer's of the entertainment industry shape and control the world. Celebrity is nothing more than a key to open a door. A wrestling victory over another celebrity is prerequisite to walking through the door to claim fame, riches, and power. Sexuality, sensuality, and homoeroticism combine with combat to determine the fortunes of talented hopefuls. Everyone is a product. Sexuality is a commodity. And victory in combat is the currency of political power.

The Focus Group: Hemsworth vs. Hemsworth

Eli Brody listened to the pitch and he loved it. It was a fantastic combination of drama, action and romance. It was powerful and timely. Eli knew it was a coup that he landed this script. Still, this project was a risk. It needed the right lead. Knowing the key theme was about family, he wanted real brothers and no one fit the bill better than Chris and Liam Hemsworth.

My best friend Jeff and I are standing in awe. We’re on a small, secluded piece of soft sand in Northern Calfornia. It’s too small to be considered a beach. Massive rock walls and the Pacific Ocean surround us, the small trail we followed down here obscured. I'm loving the sound of the waves of the blue water crashing into the rocky outcroppings as we take in this private paradise. To a couple of New Yorkers like us, it's like a different world.

It's not my first time on the west coast, but it's always a great change being here. Jeff and I are definitely making the most of our California vacation. After visiting friends of mine in LA, we've come up the coast highway, stopping in Monterrey to see two more friends. The scenery just gets better the further north we come, especially from my vintage red 1958 Corvette convertible in the warm September air.

We're going to spend our last few vacation days in San Fran before we have to head back east for Jeff's next show. He's a pro wrestler for the Ring of Wrestling, a big indie fed that's just one step below the big boys. It's a big deal for him, so we can't blow it off.
