Review: Coop/Jake vs. Ethan/Jason Kane (RHW 1.0)

Now that Rock Hard Wrestling is officially defunct and replaced (my post here), we can't be sure how long its website will be up and running. So I figure I better have what I want before the cost outweighs the income. Luckily, I probably have everything I want, including every Jake, Bruce, Dash and Alex solo match.

During the recent Jake Jenkins sale, I completed my Jake collection adding the four tag team matches that I had previously skipped. Out of all those tag matches, I decided to review Coop/Jake vs. Ethan/Jason for some variety and nostalgia. Coincidentally, it's also the "Encore Presentation" right now.

There’s been quite a bit of talk and speculation over the past several months about what’s happening at Rock Hard Wrestling. And, what is this new 88Wrestling site all about? I haven’t been able to share any insight up to this point out of respect for the business decisions that were being made at RHW. Essentially, the decision to bring RHW to a close was a mutual decision between myself and the other co-owner. My business partner moved on, but, I was persuaded to stay in the wrestling business by some close associates, and thus went on to create 88Wrestling. The new site’s goals are; 1) to bring the next generation of superstar wrestlers to the underground wrestling scene, along with some favorite blasts from the past, 2) to bring exciting, never seen before match series for our fans and customers to enjoy, and 3) to bring quality videos at reasonable prices to our fans and customers. Round 16: Chad Daniels vs. Mitch Colby

Mitch looks focused as he waits for the young surfer to circle the entire ring. Chad is contemptuous of the mature muscleman as he climbs into the ring. After getting squashed by Tyrell, the blond RHW stud is more focused. He takes early control, really torturing Mitch with an impressive series of classic power moves - slams, stomps, punches and even a suplex.

And here we are for the first half of the final day of season 2. These six Day 3 matches will decide who wins bragging rights. Defending champ Rock Hard Wrestling has a big hill to climb, but nothing is impossible. Thunders is definitely in the driver's seat. And of course, you can never count BGEast out.

Round 10: Joshua Goodman vs. Talon

Talon bounces in the ring, looking pumped and focused. His loss to Tyrell burns him up. He's only lost once at Thunders. The idea of going 0-2 is unfathomable. Joshua Goodman emerges from the back and saunters to the ring. He's got sunglasses on, looking ridiculously hot in an animal print poser. He looks at Talon with a smirk.

Hoping to keep the momentum going, Zack substitutes Dash in for Chad at the last minute. Yeah, he's burning through his most talented studs, but Tanner's loss to a Thunders jobber hurt the team's confidence. He needs his less experienced guys to know they can win.

Battle of the Wrestling Stars 2: BGE vs. RHW vs. Thunders Part 1 of 6

Welcome to Season 2 of Battle of the Wrestling Stars. I was motivated to finish this by a recent comment on an old post and the return of Battle of the Network Stars to TV on ABC.

The original series pitted Rock Hard Wrestling against UCW. It was originally posted on the New Stories blog back in June 2015 and then re-posted (starting here) at The Cave in September 2015. It was inspired by the 70’s TV show and an e-mail exchange with Joe from Ringside at Skull Island about a comment he made.

It was a hard-fought, five-match, three-day affair that went down to the wire with then-King of the Ring Dash Decker eking out a victory in the third fall vs. then-UCW champion Quinn Harper.

Can he do it again?

Season 2 is even bigger, with RHW returning, plus two more producers. It’s a week-long, 18-match extravaganza. This time, RHW faces BGEast and Thunders Arena. Each selected stud will wrestle twice. It was developed as a three-day event, but it is so big, so monumental that it's being split into six posts posted over the next 8 days.

Bruce Ballard is one of Rock Hard Wrestling's best stars and now all his videos are on sale for just $13.95. This includes SD and HD downloads, but not something called ... DVD? Whatever that means. Either way, Bruce is worthy of your attention.

Bruce is ranked #4 in my RHW talent rankings, behind only Jake, Alex and Dash. Yes, looking at RHW only, I like him more than Austin, Ethan or Z-Man. To me, those three excel more at other places. Regardless, he's pretty great and like Alex and Dash, he's unique to RHW.

I'd say that Bruce has four phases ...

Review: Jake Jenkins vs. Alex Waters (RHW 1.0)

"Video fills a screen. Sound fills a room."

I thought of this quote during Jake Jenkins vs. Alex Waters while listening to Jake Jenkins' moans once again. They absolutely fill my room. I can see how you might get tired of reading about the awesomeness of his plaintive cries of pain in every Jake review I do, but I can't imagine how you can ever tire of actually hearing them. If loving Jake's suffering is wrong, I don't want to be right.

Review: Lucas Payne vs. Gunner Bayani (RHW 1.0)

This month's classic Rock Hard Wrestling match is Lucas Payne vs. Gunner Bayani.

I truly believe that this could have been a battle between two icons if both guys had stuck around. They both impressed me, but neither returned to fulfill their wrestling destiny. So instead of Gunner being on the level of talented lightweight bad boys like Eli or Ethan and Lucas rivaling musclemen like Dash or Austin, they are mere footnotes in the storied history of RHW.

Review: Alex Waters vs. Zack Johnathan KOTR7 (RHW)

UCW has rejuvenated my interest in their belt. Can Rock Hard Wrestling do the same? I skipped the last two King of the Ring matches, unable to summon any interest in either one. Now we've got King Zack Johnathan vs. Alex Waters.

Two veterans in a KOTR disappointment

Putting Alex back in the KOTR series convinced me to buy this. The guy is my favorite RHW wrestler and his last KOTR appearance is one of my two all-time favorites (now tied with Alex v Bruce, reviewed here). I've seen these two wrestle and I liked it, so it became an immediate download.

So how'd it go? Meh.

Review: Jake Jenkins vs. Gunner Bayani (RHW 1.0)

Jake Jenkins vs. Gunner Bayani is probably a weird Rock Hard Wrestling match for me to choose to feature, because it's not necessarily a favorite. It is, however, still enjoyable depending on your tastes. I picked it because it breaks the expected mold in a few ways. RHW was the most consistent and homogeneous of the video companies, so a little variety was and is interesting to me.

Review: Austin Cooper vs. Lucas Payne (RHW 1.0)

This match is one of the few Rock Hard Wrestling videos I have that doesn't star at least one of Jake Jenkins, Dash Decker or Alex Waters. A mere 10 out of 48 total don't feature one of them. However, that doesn't mean Lucas Payne vs. Austin Cooper is not a good video.

I'm not sure why I bought it, but I am glad I did. It's a fun, exciting and very re-watchable video.

Alex Waters talks a lot. The southern stud loves to run his mouth in every match whether he's winning or losing. Usually it just goes between bragging, insults and casual narration, but against rookie Wes Richards (or West as the superstar insists on calling him), you might find Alex to be your voice in the ring.

It’s amazing the talent that has spawned from RHW. Today, I’m reviewing a match that I believe was the debut for another prolific mega-star, Eli Black.

By now I'm sure everyone knows that Jake Jenkins is back in action for Thunders Arena. Truly this is a joyous event. I have watched two matches and written two reviews, but they won't appear until 8/18 (vs. Steel) and 8/20 (vs. Frey). I've actually completed all my August posts and it's a jam-packed month with 4 stories, an epilogue, 9 reviews and a Who's Who.

Today, I'm not focused on the present, I'm looking back to Jake Jenkins vs. Lucas Payne. This is my fourth monthly post on the glory days of Rock Hard Wrestling. Jake is clearly the reason I bought this video, but I have to say that his opponent did catch my attention, too. However, muscle boys were RHW's stock in trade, so it's not like that was enough to inspire me to buy. No, it was definitely Jake.

It's been a while since I really looked at anything new from Rock Hard Wrestling. Alex Waters tempted back a couple of months ago, but I've been lukewarm towards their recent products at best. However, after a month of almost nothing but BGEast and Thunders Arena, I decided to shake things up. I've got reviews of a Krushco match and a couple of older Movimus matches coming before the next story.

Today, it's Tanner Hill vs. Wes Richards. So how'd it go?

If there are any Dash matches that you don't own, this is a great time to complete your collection. Dash is simply amazing and he only did 13 videos for Rock Hard Wrestling. And he's done none for anyone else. Yes, some are better than others, but I think my least favorite Dash matches (KOTR4 and Josh Steel) are still buyable. Especially at that price.

If you've never bought any Dash matches, you probably aren't looking to spend $181.35 on every match. So here are a few suggestions on where to start.

KOTR2: Dash Decker vs. Alex Waters

I've said many times that this is my favorite RHW match ever. It's simply fantastic. This match is what RHW is all about and it stars their two greatest proprietary talents. Unlike Jake, Austin, Z-Man or Ethan, these two are 100% pure RHW.
