Mindsweeper Monday: TCCW 20

TCCW are wrestling stories from two different Yahoo! groups from the early 2000's. These entries were part of a much larger universe led by other writers. There are references to characters, events and matches that will not be posted here. Titles change hands, friendships and alliances form and dissolve, all without you ever seeing it. Imagine you are watching an Indy fed sporadically.

Note: You can find ALL (?) the stories by all authors in order in their original versions HERE - thanks for the link, Mangler!

Corwin/Drew versus Elton/Patrick

Elton and Patrick entered the gym. Both were excited about their upcoming singles matches.

As they approached the ring for their sparring practice, Corwin and Drew were using the squared circle. They were practicing their moves wearing small black speedos, not wanting to practice in their loincloths that they saved for matches.

Patrick waited, watching the tag champs for a minute, until it was officially 10am. Patrick went up to the ring and said, "Guys, time's up. I'm signed up to use the ring for the next hour."

Corwin and Drew strutted up to the rope. Corwin, the blond one, was 5'10" and 162 lbs, with a taut, hard torso. Corwin leaned hard on the top rope and stared at Patrick. He had a cocky look on his face, a slight smirk.

Drew was 6' tall and 165 pounds. He was thinner with a lean swimmer's build. Drew had tight muscles, except his pecs which were hard and bulging. Drew put his arm over his partner's shoulder.

Drew said, cockily, "Really? Well, suppose we're not done. You think you can take it if we don't give it up? Man, we're the tag champs!" Corwin and Drew backed up and flexed their muscled torsos. Their biceps swelled, pecs bounced and washboard abs rippled.

A deep voice spoke from behind Patrick. Elton looked pissed. He said, "You guys are the tag title holders? And you think I care? We've got this ring. Get out or ..." Patrick could see Elton's big shoulders tensing as Elton prepared to kick some ass.

Elton was 6' tall, 187 pounds and thickly muscled. His arms, legs and especially his pecs were big and powerful. He had a lean waist with a rippled midsection that kept his weight down. He was a good looking black kid with an intensity that was palpable.

Hurriedly, Patrick jumped in front of Elton and held him back. Patrick was 160 pounds and 5'10" He was a skilled amateur wrestler, but new to pro. Patrick looked like a farmhand, with his short blond hair, dimples and gentle nature. Like Elton, though, Patrick had a temper. Jordan would find that out one day soon.

Patrick said, "Oh geez, sorry, Elton! This is Corwin and this is Drew. I live in the same dorm as them, Corwin's in a couple of my classes. I thought you guys knew each other. They were just teasing with me, Elton. Core and Drew are really cool."

Elton relaxed. Corwin and Drew apologized for their joke, not knowing Elton had signed up with Patrick. Elton and Patrick hopped in the ring. As the tag champs prepared to exit the ring, Elton said, "You guys didn't work up much of a sweat."

Drew said, "No. We were late. Barely got in here before this. We should have known better than to pick 9am. No way can either of us roll out of bed that early in the summer."

Elton nodded. He peeled off his tank top and dropped his gray athletic shorts. He wore short navy blue square cut shorts and running shoes. He tossed his shirt and shorts aside. Patrick did the same, stripping to a pair of royal blue trunks. He started limbering up. Elton knelt beside Patrick and whispered something to him. Patrick nodded excitedly.

As Corwin and Drew were packing their stuff, Elton yelled to them, "Hey, want to show me and Patrick how to be tag champs?"

Corwin and Drew came back to the ring, excited about the chance to wrestle these two tough middleweights. Drew said, "Sure you don't mind sharing your time? I mean, just because we were late doesn't mean you should have to lose any of your time."

Patrick said, "Guys, when you get to know Elton you'll know he never says something he doesn't mean. Now get in here and wrestle us. You punks."

Corwin and Drew smiled at each other. They jokingly said, "Okay, you want it that way? We'll see who the punks are."

Elton and Patrick admitted they had never wrestled tag before with anyone. Corwin and Drew gave Elton and Patrick the lowdown on the rules and gave them some pointers. After a few minutes, the four wrestlers agreed to a tag match, standard rules. Elton and Patrick admitted they had never wrestled tag before with anyone. Corwin and Drew gave Elton and Patrick the lowdown on the rules and gave them some pointers. After a few minutes, the four wrestlers exchanged handshakes and got ready.

Corwin and Drew conferred about strategy. When they had explained that the best strategy was to isolate one opponent, Drew had noticed Patrick's look. Patrick knew that would be him in practically every match. Drew told Corwin what he had seen. Corwin smirked, "Well, Elton is smaller than some of our competition but he's powerful. Might be good practice for facing Trace or Kale."

Drew nodded. Both guys really liked Patrick, the blond young man, was always pleasant and always nice to everyone in the dorm. They had their detractors because of some perceptions about them but Patrick ignored them. He made friends with anyone who was friendly, refusing to be a part of any clique.

The tag champs decided to reward Patrick and test themselves as much as possible. They gave each other a high five and broke.

Across the ring, Elton and Patrick were talking about strategy too. They broke off and shook hands. Patrick was going to start off. When Patrick stepped forward, Corwin said, "I'll go first, I really want to get it on with Patrick." Drew nodded. Typically they chose opponents so that if all four men were in the ring, there would be no question who was responsible for who. Drew agreed and the match was on.

The two blond middleweights circled in the ring. They were roughly the same size, even with similar builds. Corwin moved in closer. Patrick met him and the two wrestlers locked up in a collar-and-elbow lock-up. They pushed back and forth, testing each other's strength. Patrick shifted his weight and locked on a headlock. He squeezed hard, putting on the pressure. His strong bicep flexed out, the rock hard muscle digging into Corwin's head.

Corwin grunted but couldn't pull Patrick's arm from him. Instead, he pushed Patrick back into the ropes. Corwin moved forward, bouncing Patrick off the ropes. The force of the toss broke the hold and Patrick went racing across the ring. When he turned, he saw Corwin waiting. Patrick lowered his shouldered and plowed Corwin down with a shoulder block!

Corwin crashed back but immediately leapt back to his feet. Patrick ran back across the ring and came off the ropes again. Corwin dropped down, letting Patrick run over him. On Patrick's next trip by, Corwin went for an arm bar takedown.

Patrick again recognized the move. He blocked it. Corwin tried to toss him again. Patrick again blocked it then delivered a standing clothesline! Corwin fell back onto the mat landing hard. Patrick forced him to his feet. Patrick ducked under Corwin's arm and grabbed a tight grip around the side of Corwin's black speedo. Patrick cinched his arm around Corwin's neck and made sure his handful of trunks was secure. He dipped and lifted, snapping Corwin over in a fast suplex!

Corwin was back on the mat, clutching the back of his head. Patrick bounced in the ring as Corwin scrambled to his corner. Patrick made no move to stop him.

Corwin knew that Elton and Patrick were tough, but already they had made the usual rookie tag team mistakes. Letting their opponents tag being the worst offense so far. Corwin kept track so that he could tell the guys after the match where they went wrong and why they had lost.

Corwin knelt in his corner and rubbed his head. On the outside of the ring, Drew knelt behind him. He reached through the ropes and grabbed his partner around the shoulders. He pulled him close and whispered in his ear. Corwin nodded, standing and tagging Drew in to face the talented middleweight.

Patrick waited across the ring. He waited as Drew entered the ring. Drew approached for a lock-up. Patrick locked up with the bigger of the two opponents. He felt himself losing this leverage battle and immediately shifted weight. He maneuvered Drew into an arm bar.

Patrick dragged Drew to the corner. He tightened the arm bar, causing Drew to moan. Patrick waited then finally said, "Elton, tag in."

Elton tagged Patrick and got ready to get it on with the tag champs, excited to be in his first tag match, even if was just practice!

Elton tagged him and stepped in. Patrick tried to pass the arm bar to Elton but as his grip loosened, Drew pulled away. Drew and Elton circled. Elton and Drew locked up, with Elton resuming the arm torture on Drew. He cinched in a hard, tight arm bar. Drew grimaced in pain.

Elton grabbed on tight with one hand and beat down with his other hand on Drew's shoulder. Elton tossed Drew across the ropes. On the way back, Elton caught Drew with a big powerslam! Elton went for the cover but only got one.

Elton got up and tagged in Patrick. By the time Patrick got back in, Drew had rolled himself back to his corner. Corwin tagged in.

Corwin and Patrick went at it again. Corwin moved in, only to be met with a big boot from Patrick! Patrick immediately moved beside Corwin. He reached between Corwin's legs and over his shoulder. Patrick lifted Corwin and then dropped him hard over his knee! The gut buster dent Corwin sprawling on the mat

Patrick dropped an elbow into Corwin's aching abs. He leapt up and stomped him hard. Patrick forced Corwin to his feet and sent him hard into the corner. Elton watched happily as Patrick took it to his counterpart. Patrick delivered another knee to Corwin's abs. Corwin sagged on the top rope.

Corwin was definitely winded from the attack. Patrick tagged Elton in. Instead of double-teaming him, Patrick just slid between the ropes back to the outside. Corwin managed to tag Drew back in. Again, Patrick and Elton had failed to prevent the tag.

Elton immediately moved forward and went for a lock-up. Drew, having seen both himself and Corwin outmaneuvered in this arrangement by Patrick and Elton opted to change strategies. When Elton locked up, Drew lifted his knee, driving it into the brick wall Elton called abs. He followed up with a second one and dragged Elton to his half of the ring.

Drew spun Elton and pushed him into the corner. He slammed his elbow across Elton's chin and tagged in Corwin. Together, they threw Elton into the ropes. They joined hands and double-clotheslined him to the mat!

Elton went to roll to his corner but Corwin reached down. He grabbed inside Elton's shorts, grabbing his gear. Elton felt his jock and shorts stretched to the max but he was still nowhere near Patrick. Corwin jumped forward, landing an elbow to the back of Elton's head.

Elton rolled onto his back, dazed by the blow. Corwin ran back into the ropes and leapt up to splash Elton. Elton lifted his knees just in time and Corwin landed hard on Elton's knees! Both guys suffered on the mat. Elton managed to make it to his corner while Corwin lay on the mat.

Elton tagged Patrick in. Patrick immediately dragged Corwin to their corner. He laid the boots to Corwin's aching abs. When Elton was looking better, Patrick tagged Elton again.

The two wrestlers had learned from Corwin and Drew's double-team. They each grabbed Corwin's wrist, forced him to his feet and pushed him back into the ropes. Elton pulled forward hard, trying to send Corwin across the ring. Patrick though pushed back hard, wanting to bounce Corwin one more time. The result was confusion, with all three wrestlers stumbling.

Elton said to Patrick, "It was on three, one, two, GO!"

Patrick replied, "No, it was count to three, one, two, three, GO!"

As they argued, Corwin scrambled and tagged in Drew. Drew sauntered over and said, "Patrick, you have to get out now. Your five-count is over. Elton, you are the legal man."

Elton was about to reply when he got clobbered with a knee to the gut. Drew dragged Elton away from his corner and lifted him in the air. He dropped Elton down in a body slam.

Drew knew it was time to start the isolation of Elton on their side of the ring!

Drew laid the boots to Elton in the corner. Drew forced Elton to his feet and pushed him into the turnbuckle hard. Drew hammered the black stud with chops to his chest and abs. He stepped back and delivered a leaping spinning kick, planting it deep into Elton's softening abs.

Elton sagged in the corner. Drew locked Elton into a full nelson. He let Corwin tag him. When Corwin entered, he hammered hard into Elton's stomach, driving a fist in deep and hard!

Elton bent forward and Drew released the full nelson. Together, they moved simultaneously and wrapped their arms around Elton's neck. They dropped him with a double-DDT! Elton's limbs went limp as he sprawled on the mat!

Corwin covered Elton. From across the ring, Drew said, "Uh Patrick, this is the time you might want to save your partner!"

Patrick nodded and started into the ring. Corwin felt Elton's hands under him. With a tight grip on Corwin's thigh and pec, Elton pressed up and sent Corwin off him with authority. Patrick stopped and smiled.Corwin went flying off Elton. He was surprised as Elton stood and faced him. Corwin charged; Elton braced for impact but Corwin dove and slid under his legs. Elton turned and was met with a series of hard forearms to the head. He was forced back into the opposition's corner.Patrick thought, "Elton should have tagged me. Man, we suck at this!"Corwin tagged Drew. Without words, Corwin ducked down and held Elton in the corner for his partner. Drew hopped up onto the top rope. He grabbed Elton by the head and leaped forward. Corwin felt his friend and partner shift weight and immediately responded. He moved to the side, letting Drew drive Elton's head down to the mat in a bulldog.

Elton writhed on the mat. Drew covered. Patrick started to come into the ring but Drew had Elton across the ring, he would never make it in time. Miraculously, Elton kicked out at two!

Corwin and Drew were amazed. Drew tagged Corwin again. Drew turned Elton perpendicular to the corner. He held Elton's feet and waited. Corwin leapt off the top rope and splashed onto Elton's wide-open torso.

Patrick winced as Corwin covered Elton. Corwin counted and slapped, "One, two," but Elton lifted his shoulder. Corwin brought Elton up. He pushed Elton into the ropes. As Corwin went to whip Elton across the ring, Elton reversed the move. He sent Corwin across into the ropes. Corwin extended his arm and quietly tagged Drew. Patrick saw it but Elton did not.

As Corwin came off, he ducked under Elton's attempted clothesline. Elton turned to face Corwin, only to be bulldogged again by Drew coming in from behind him! Corwin dropped a powerful elbow into Elton's back as he left the ring, timing the five-count perfectly, even without a referee.

Drew straddled Elton's waist and lowered himself down. He lifted Elton's arms and wrapped his hands under Elton's chin. Drew pulled back and locked in the camel clutch.

Elton struggled but couldn't get free. Patrick made a move to help his partner ...

Patrick charged into the ring to save Elton from Drew's camel clutch. Corwin saw him start and raced across the ring. He jumped over Elton and Drew, hitting Patrick with a cross body block.

Patrick had been so intent on getting Elton free that he was caught flush by Corwin's tackle. Corwin spun Patrick around. He hopped on Patrick's back and lifted his torso up. Corwin put Patrick in a matching camel clutch. Patrick was staring at Elton and vice versa as they suffered.

Elton strained to break free, but realized that he couldn't. The bigger tag champ had the hold locked in tight. Patrick was equally helpless under the blond tag champ, struggling in futility, feeling his back weakening with every moment.

Elton could see Patrick's struggle and saw that he wasn't going to escape. Patrick could also watch Elton stubbornly hang on, trying to lift out of the hold. Corwin and Drew held tightly, their man muscles flexing as they pulled back hard to get the submission.

Elton realized the futility of his struggle. Not wanting to damage his back any longer, he submitted to the camel clutch. Drew immediately released his hold, gently lowering the defeated stud Elton to the mat. Corwin did the same to Patrick.

Corwin and Drew did high-fives in the ring. Their black speedos were soaked with sweat. This had been a great workout for both of them. In the ring, Elton and Patrick commiserated about their performance. Elton apologized for being the weak link.

Corwin overheard and slapped Elton on the back. He said, "Elton, never apologize for being the weak link. Big rule of tag team wrestling. Both guys win and both guys lose. Would you expect Patrick to apologize if he was pinned or submitted?"

Elton smiled, "Thanks for that advice. You are right."

Patrick said, "You guys are awesome. While Elton and tripped all over each other, you two seemed to know what to do without even speaking!"

Corwin and Drew smiled. Drew said, "That's practice. We are close and we know what the other is thinking in the ring. That's the secret."

Elton asked, "Well, what do you guys think? Are we tag team material?"

Corwin and Drew said, in unison, "No." Drew continued, "Yeah, you two should stick to singles." At Elton and Patrick's shocked faces, Corwin burst out laughing. Drew said, "Look, why do we want two guys like you in the tag ranks? Sorry, but out of our own self-interest, you guys should stay as singles."

Elton locked a headlock on Drew. He gave the blond stud a noogie as they laughed in the ring. The four wrestlers horsed around until their hour was up. By the end, Elton and Patrick ended up on top, schoolboy pinning the tag champs before hitting the showers.

Outside the ring, the other wrestlers were all watching them horse around. Everyone was impressed with Corwin and Drew. They just got better and better. They had easily dominated Elton and the match, another sign that size and strength could be overcome by their superior skill.

But reaction to Elton and Patrick was mixed. Since wrestlers generally were either tag or singles, the middleweights were happy to see Elton and Patrick practicing tag moves. If they shifted their focus, it would be good news for all of them.

The tag teams were less thrilled. Trace and Kale watched silently. Tyson and Brett were whispering. Other teams were also focusing on the pairing. They had lost pretty convincingly but everyone knew that was because they had never done any tag at all. They had been confused and inefficient in the ring. If they trained, Elton and Patrick would be a force to be reckoned with.

No, guys like Jessie, Jack, Trace, Kale, Tyson, Brett, Alex, Scott, Damon and Marcus were not thrilled at all.

THE END
