Review: Alex Costa vs. Joey McCoy (Muscleboy Wrestling)

Full disclosure: The video was provided to me by Muscleboy Wrestling.

It’s nice to know that I can keep being surprised. Alex Costa vs. Joey McCoy looked familiar. It started familiar. Big hairy hunk versus much smaller boyish jobber is an age-old story. I own many versions of it, including Alex Costa vs. Armond Rizzo (review here), also from Muscleboy Wrestling. And yet, it wasn’t familiar. Thanks to two brilliant performances and stunning action, this becomes an amazing match that is (one of) the best ever with this story.

Alex is bigger and badder,
but Joey is a tough little guy.

After this match, I am just in love with Joey McCoy. He’s got to be (one of) the best little guy(s) around. He does literally everything right. He’s cute as fuck with a tight body looking adorable in his blue speedos with white stars. He’s energetic, brave and eager to take on the much bigger Alex. He’s bendy and bouncy. He’s engaged and expressive. Just a joy to watch.

And you know I love Alex Costa. He’s a two-time Cavey Award winner, picking up both Favorite Rookie and Favorite Erotic Match for 2018. The guy is (one of) the sexiest guy(s) around. He’s sculpted like a Greek god, hairy and handsome. And his frequent crazy wide-eyed look adds just enough danger to keep things real. He’s got a charming arrogance, which seems to be grounded in a desire to have fun while he dominates.

The boy can't even dent the man.

Joey keeps plugging away.

Alex's big body is good for more
than just looking great.

This video begins very much like Alex’s last match against a diminutive young stud. The hairy hunk literally breaks out laughing when he sees Joey in the mat room. He’s once again confused at how he’s getting paired with little guys. Joey isn’t backing down and Alex is a gamer. He says that as long as Joey is tough, he’ll wrestle him. And Joey is tough. Alex works hard but cannot submit the young cutie no matter how hard he tries. And this isn’t a 100% squash. The ultra-lightweight has more than a few tricks in his trunks as he turns the tables a few times to surprise the sweaty stud.

Yeah, that's not going to work, little guy.

Joey knows every man has a weak spot.

Goliath basks in the glory of crushing David.

Action-wise, this is really fast-paced and truly power-packed. This is (one of) my only GIF-only review(s) as there’s so much happening over the 30 minutes that I could barely keep up. There are a lot of hot static positions, but somehow I settled on GIF’s. You could easily do 30 images from this one, there’s just so much happening.

Despite all Joey’s very convincing and beautiful suffering and screaming, Alex keeps failing to get him to say the only words that matter. And not because Alex takes it easy on him. Joey’s unmatched resilience and never-say-die attitude keeps this compelling and surprising until the very very end. This helps explain his bursts of power as frustration and confusion opens the door for Joey’s reversals and counters.

At some point, the story becomes “can Alex actually submit Joey”? Because the hairy beast tries. He tries really, really hard. He slams, pounds and bends Joey with probably every hold and move that he knows. He backbreakers. He slams his head into a wall. He piledrives him. Alex does everything short of killing the kid, but it’s all for naught.

Alex tries every move he knows.

Joey tries to break those rock-hard muscles.

If you can't submit him, maybe you can pin him.

In the end, this is truly a virtuoso performance for young Joey as he does everything perfectly and manages to actually get me talking more about him than I do Alex, which is no small feat. Of course, Alex is perfect, too. Beautiful and playful while also having that element of sadism that gives him an edge beyond just being a handsome hunk.

What are other bloggers saying? On some matches, I actively avoid reading catalogue descriptions or posts about them until after I view and write my review of them. In this case, it was interesting to me to discover that Joe focused on Alex’s brutality. Check it out!

So that’s my take. What’s yours?

Alex

  1. Dang! It's very true good things come in small packages! Joey is a little spitfire. Love a tough jobber. Wrestling a limp dishrag is no fun. And Joey is one of those guys that just frustrates the hell out of you. "Tap, you!!" And Alex is definitely one of the best erotic heels. Woof. I think he and Derek Bolt need to form an erotic heel tag team. Maybe add in Buck Carter. Now whom should we pair with Joey as the jobber team? Great review. Love the gif format.

    1. I agree that Joey would be a great opponent. Based on this match, if you want a submission, you're going to have to pretty much break the kid in half. As I said, I think he just does everything perfectly in this one.

I swear I saw a tweet that Alex will actually be facing Derek next MBW catalogue, but now I can't find it. Maybe after that, they could form an alpha tag team, although who knows who could oppose them?

  2. Well Alex you are right about Derek vs Alex. They just announced the new catalog is coming soon, no videos yet. Apparently Bolt gets a cut above his eye in the match with Alex and bleeds. Just the little write up so far and Joey is at it again in a big vs little match. Hopefully it is out soon.

    1. Thanks! Nice to know I did see that. Ouch for Derek, but he seems like a trouper. I still have a couple of catalogue 11 videos to watch, but if Alex vs Derek comes out, I'll watch it immediately.

I'm wondering which is the match where he gets beaten and plowed that the MBW CEO teased in the comments section here. I don't imagine that's against Alex, at least from the plowed perspective.

    2. The Derek/Alex match is the lead off match in the catalog just released. Derek WILL get plowed and beaten...just not quite YET. (gotta tease the fans a little more!). ;)

    3. My bet is Nick Flex or Bruno that bend Derek over and give him a good plowing.

  3. Derek vs Alex?! WhooHoo! That'll be a for erotic heel vs heel match.

As for opponents to a Bolt-Costa tag team, I think Blake Hunter needs a rematch with Bolt. And I can see Calvin Haynes as a good, beefy, partner.

    1. SPOILER. It is heel vs. heel. And both have valets who argue over who’s heel is hotter. Quin is Derek’s and Alex’s is a hot guy I don’t recognize. MBW sent it to me last night. I’ve watched the first 11 minutes of the video and it’s really hot so far.

    2. Oh I love that they have valets! It's like one of your stories come to life!!

    3. The valet of Alex is a new guy on MBW who in a later match in the catalog is totally destroyed. Looks like a hot new jobber.

  4. Is Joey McCoy also Nate Wing?
