Review: Brendan Byers vs. Rex Brody (Muscleboy Wrestling)

Well, given that I, like many of you, are now on lockdown until June, it seems like we all need some good vibes. There are a lot of things that can make a good wrestling video for me. Some are internal, like my mood, and some are external, like the quality of the action. One of the biggest things for me is the chemistry between the wrestlers.

Muscleboy Wrestling clearly gets the chemistry right in Brendan Byers vs. Rex Brody.

What the world needs now.

Completely random thought, but I love the name Brody. It always makes me think of the big burly (and unlucky) Bugs Bunny character Steve Brody and the memorable line, "At it again, eh Brody?" Rookie Rex Brody isn't quite as big but he's beefy, furry and bearded. And he's definitely not unlucky. After all, look who he's wrestling. Cavey Award winner Brendan Byers!

Looking at these two, I was sold right away.

This move is both hot and painful (i.e. perfect).

Since his return, I feel like Brendan has been pretty intense as a heel. With sexy Rexy, he's more playful. The boys are grinning, smiling and flirting. Unfortunately for Rex, a flirty Brendan is still big brutal badass. It just means that the pain is mixed in with some kissing and caressing. This isn't a squash but it's close. The rookie's offense keeps the action going, but the veteran is the guy in charge.

They make a cute couple. Rex is adorable and confident that there isn't "anyone at Muscleboy Wrestling who can beat these biceps." Oh, you poor foolish hunk. Biceps don't win wrestling matches. The naive rookie obviously believes the idea that pro wrestling is an upper body business. Maybe at the WWE, but not at MBW. Enter Brendan down the stairs to test Brody's theory.

Action-wise, Brendan is the veteran superstar, so he leads most of it. He combines power, submission holds and dirty (i.e., hot) tricks to dominate sexy Rexy. The crotch grabs are more playful than painful and both guys seem to enjoy it. Rex does get his turn on top, mainly through crotch grabs, but I did like his headbutt and he dishes out some body punishment, too.

In the end, this is the right video at the right time. It's sexy. It's hard-hitting. It's well-paced. And most importantly, the boys have chemistry. Rex shows just enough gumption to be a good jobber boy and Brendan is a master heel. Just what I needed.
