Review: Todd the Rod vs. Vinny Motz (Wrestler4Hire)

And we’re back with more of Todd the Rod and his “hairy dad bod, dorky jokes and comebacks, a fading Batman tattoo [and] his total commitment to his own [uncool]ness.” That description courtesy of Wrestler4Hire. My description is that he’s an entertaining guy with a unique look and style. Yesterday, he was totally squashed, but what about today against someone who isn’t a badass pro wrestler?

Has Todd found an opponent more his speed?

Todd the Rod vs. Vinny Motz features an entirely different dynamic. The description frames these two as brothers. I frame them as regular guys having a fun play session. This is the kind of meet-up most guys on wrestling personals sites would love to have. A contrasting guy who’s good looking, knows some wrestling and is eager to romp around and have some fun. Both guys are committed to their roles, which is great in any wrestling meetup.

Boys just wanna have fun!

Work the leg!

Yeah, Todd likes dishing it out for a change.

Vinny Motz immediately feels like a classic soft-bellied jobber. I could totally see him on TV waiting in the ring (because jobber-boys like Vinny don’t get entrances, they just magically appear) as the massive monster heel’s music blares while he struts down the aisle with a knowing smirk on his face to destroy the young wannabe who’s been convinced that getting mauled and humiliated is ‘paying his dues’.

But I digress. The guy is a smooth, pudgy cutie pie with his trunks pulled ridiculously high. I actually knew a guy who wore his bathing suit like that (this was in the old days before guys were shamed into board shorts). Anyway, it always looked so uncomfortable, but I actually think it suits Vinny’s character. There’s a strange confidence in it, but you know that no star would wear his trunks like that.

Young Vinny is a total jobber (and I suspect he loves it).

These guys know their roles.

Vinny sells just like his favorite jobber role models.

The match starts with Vinny stretching in his shiny white boots and black trunks. He flaunts what he’s got, putting on a show for us as Todd waits. Perhaps learning from Chase, ‘the Rod’ starts fast, brutal and dominating. Vinny is quickly selling hard as he’s manhandled. The jobber plays his role well. Like I said, this is a match a lot of guys would love to be in on either side. If you’re a jobber, Todd’s a good heel who’ll put you through your paces.

I really liked the action as Vinny is beaten down like a helpless jobber. He gets a moment on top, but it’s fleeting and mainly just conveys that he’s got some spunk in him. Good for him. He suffers racks, crabs, camels and other assorted classic holds. The boys have their fun. This could’ve worked in a basement or hotel room, because it’s that kind of regular guy rumble.

Good job, boys! Just like the pros.

There's solid action from beginning to end.

Woo hoo! I can see these guys giving
each other 5-star ratings after this one.

In the end, I enjoyed this video. It’s light-hearted and sexy in a voyeuristic way. It’s like watching two regular guys who met up on a wrestling personals site having a private match. They look and act like classic pro wrestling archetypes, playing their roles well. Vinny makes a cute jobber and Todd the Rod is actually better as the dominator today than the jobber yesterday.

So that’s my take. What’s yours?

Alex
