Review: Scrappy vs. Texas (Thunders Arena)

I haven't watched as much Thunders Arena this year as I usually do, but certain things still draw my attention. Big, brawny hunks like Texas are definitely one of them. Thunders has a history of finding great new talent. They come and go, but even when they go, they're quickly replaced by new musclemen. And when these new guys are put against one of the best in the business, I'll check it out.

Wrestlers might be bigger in Texas, but are they better?

Texas doesn't actually sound Texan to me. I'm notoriously bad with accents, but I think I would hear something. And there are no stereotypical cues, like cowboy hats or country music. So the name is just a name. What the rookie is, though, is a good looking dude. He's built differently than most Thunders guys, but I like his natural muscles. He's tall and handsome with a quiet demeanor that gets bolder as the match goes on.

Hey new guy, nice to meet you.

That's one way to bring the big man down.

Texas goes full Thunders.

The rookie is lucky enough to be facing Scrappy, a man more than capable of carrying any match at any time. The amazing powerhouse starts things off and gets them going, berating the quiet newbie, which gives Texas time to get his feet wet and his swagger on. Things quickly move into wrestling and it turns out that Texas knows takedowns. Huh. Scrappy's not impressed, but I am.

Scrappy's perfect in so many ways.

The rookie wraps up the muscleman.

Small, but mighty.

Action-wise, things aren't always smooth, but it's a solid debut that gets better as it goes. The rookie shows some real promise and like I said, I'm impressed by him. And of course, he's got one of the hottest opponents around. It's all very Thunders with limited moves, but nicely long-held holds and domination posing. There's some intensity between the guys and nice selling, especially from the superstar.

This isn't a squash, but it's definitely more Texas on top than the other way around. Scrappy's offense usually lasts a move or two. Weirdly, there's title card that comes up just before the 8-minute mark that reads "Round 1 Tie". I didn't realize there were rounds at Thunders, nor did I realize that anyone was counting. A Tie? Confusing. And no "Round 2" card comes up, although the winner is obvious.

Texas knows a thing or two.

Scrappy isn't going to go down easy.

Aw, so sweet.

In the end, Scrappy vs. Texas is a good introduction to a new Thunders stud. I like Texas' looks and his wrestling. As he warms up, his confidence comes out and it makes him even hotter. Scrappy is a perfect first opponent as he successfully pushes the big man's buttons and draws out his personality and his aggression. This has a nice intensity to it

So, that's my take. What's yours?

Alex

  1. My Take. The match starts slow. It feels like the obvious, that Texas is a new guy and doesn't feel comfortable. And you are quite right. Scrappy was the perfect guy to match him with. As the match progresses, you can see and feel how Texas changes his attitude until at some point he is really into it and forgets the cameras are there. He was quite good in it. And Scrappy keeps getting better with every outing. He is a really good performer no matter who they pair him with, win or lose, big or small. Hopefully he can grow and keep at it for years and years. Not to mention that he is one of those few guys that brings in that A+++ physique on every single video, year after year. FIVE STARS.

  2. I've wanted to check out the matches featuring Texas for a while now. I may have to pick this one up with them being on sale currently. He's got such a great body! Natural beef. Woof!

  3. Scrappy has come to be a great match with most. No exception here as Texas is somewhat raw talent, but is catching on quickly. His NHB match vs Jake on Thunders is really good, too. I think both are fun to watch and Texas has the potential to become a solid heel.
