Review: Johnny Lightning vs. Beau Hopkins (BG Enterprise)

As I look for new things to watch, Iron Ranger mentioned that he was watching some BG Wrestling, specifically Johnny Lightning. I may have seen some BG videos but I'm really not sure. They were before my time and if they were available, I don't know where. Can-Am releases them now and I really dislike their website and viewing system. However, I was willing to give Johnny a try..

I was steered in Johnny's direction,
so I decided to check him out.

I'd never heard of Johnny Lightning before this video. He's a handsome hunky bodybuilder with a classic blond surfer look (if that surfer started taking steroids and pumping major iron). He's comparable to a modern Thunders Arena muscleman but before excessive tattoos became trendy. Johnny's in bright yellow posers that showcase his powerful upper body and meaty ass.

I have heard of Beau Hopkins but never seen him in action. He's leaner than big Johnny but still plenty ripped and muscly. The dark-haired muscle stud is a good contrast for the blond pretty boy. He's pretty darn sexy decked out in flesh-colored trunks that disappear against his tanned skin with the older low resolution video. Like Johnny, his good looks still work beautifully today.

Johnny uses those big muscles.

Beau's trunks highlight his assets.

Johnny makes a nice victim, too.

This video is listed as Canadian Musclehunk Wrestling 4, which sounds really Can-Am-ish, but it is listed on BG (and there's a giant BG in the ring). It's very squashy with the blond bodybuilder dominating. The dark-haired hunk gets a couple of "hope spots", getting big Johnny down but he's unable to keep him down for long. Johnny is pretty vocal, taunting and challenging the jobber then delivering with action.

Johnny loves the body slam.

Beau gets a break from being beaten.

Johnny really loves the body slam.

Action-wise, I really liked seeing Johnny use those muscles for multiple body slams, which must be his favorite move. He adds in punishing submission holds like armbars, headlocks and a really nice camel clutch. Sexy Beau suffers nicely as he's dominated by Johnny's superior power. Things do get repetitive, so I don't know if Johnny has a limited repertoire or just likes certain holds a lot.

Damn, this prettyboy likes being on top.

Beau's got some tricks in his trunks.

It's old school action from BG.

In the end, this blast from the past was a ton of fun to watch. The guys are timelessly hot and the action is solid.

So that's my take. What's yours?

Alex

  1. I find the BG Enterprise videos very satisfying in that in many of them, whether muscleboy, surferboy, oil, they really seem to go at it hard and furious. BTW Lightning's signature finisher is a sleeper, which is always hot. :-)

    1. I do love the sleeper. Yeah, I thought this one was good. It was like Thunders guys with harder action.

  2. It's Beau with the limited repertoire more than Johnny.

    1. Interesting. I picked out two more Johnny matches against guys I’ve heard of but never seen in action (Cliff Conlin (one of Joe’s faves) and Paul Perris(one of Bard’s faves)) so that’s good to read.

  3. BG Enterprise videos (and their fictional stories) were my first foray into homoerotic wrestling video so I have a soft spot for them. However, when I look at some of the videos that say they are from BG Enterprises I don't remember them from the original company and some of the titles don't seem like they belong. But then it could be just old age.

    1. The big BG in the ring makes me believe this is BG but it feels in line with how I think of classic Can-Am too.

    2. I feel that this one is a BG match. However, if you search BG on the can-am site some of the results that come up seem more to be in line with early (or classic) Can-Am and not so much the original BG I remember.

  4. Everything about Johnny Lightning is hot, down to his cheesy name. I'd have had him be jobbing though.

    1. I think he does job in one of the videos I got so I’ll let you know how it goes. We’re being advised to work from home for the next two weeks so I might have more time to watch wrestling. LOL.
