Review: Alexi Adamov vs. Jaxx O'Doul (BGEast)

The hardest part about this post was deciding which of the 24 Alexi Adamov matches at BGEast to write about. He's so amazing, but all of his work is pre-blog for me. So the world was my oyster, but that also made for a ton of debate. Part of doing old videos this month was to save time, so I had to just make the call. Then it hit me to accomplish "two needs with one deed" (a more politically correct version to "two birds/one stone") and review an Alexi video against another guy that I want to review.

And so, I chose Alexi Adamov vs. Jaxx O'Doul. I like both guys, have covered neither and it's a good match. It's not actually either guy's best video, but it is worthy of a review.

Young guns go for it in this early battle.

Alexi Adamov is definitely one of the biggest superstars of his era. And it’s not a surprise. From his perfect debut in The Contract series through every match I’ve ever seen, he’s always incredibly sexy and skilled. Listed as 6’1”/183-lbs, he’s tall and beautifully built. What I really love is that Alexi is one of the rare wrestlers who gets an actual character arc. He smoothly evolves from duped and destroyed muscleboy to big and badass muscleman. Terrific.

Jaxx O’Doul is a personal favorite of mine, but he also appeared in 16 videos, so he’s a star, too. Jaxx is a fresh-faced heel, coming in with size, pro training and attitude. His smooth milky body is beautiful in his signature JO trunks. At 6’2”/230-lbs, the beefy young man is obviously powerful and a great contrast to the sculpted muscleboys he so frequently crushes. During his career, Jaxx is mostly a dominant heel, but he does job sometimes. Unlike Alexi’s more linear transition, it was really just based on his opponent and setting. Jaxx was always Jaxx.

Love both these studs.

Alexi's not going down easy.

Jaxx clearly sees Alexi as a doormat.

So we’ve got two stars together. While that doesn’t always guarantee success, here it works. These two tall hunks are both young and confident. Jaxx is the powerhouse, but Alexi is our brave hero, ready to face any challenger. It’s not a squash, but one guy is significantly more dominant. You can figure out if it’s the beefy pro or the adorable amateur.

He's got the power. BOOM!

CRACK! SPLAT!

Alexi lets loose.

Action-wise, it’s really good. Fast-paced and continuous, these put on a great show. This is where you really see the contrast. Jaxx has power on his side. He executes big pro moves like body slams and piledrivers like Alexi weighs nothing. Alexi has speed and grit on his side, catching the confident heel off-guard then locking him in a submission move.

Big boys can't bend.

Jaxx knows what we really want.

Alexi's nothing for the powerful beefcake.

In the end, this star vs. star battle satisfies. Alexi is hot as fuck, but his charisma is what sets him apart. He’s just got a ton of energy and enthusiasm that you can feel through the screen. I feel like Jaxx is underrated. He’s really good, very compelling and a sexy bad boy. Maybe it’s just because there weren’t as many blogs back when he wrestled.

So that’s my take. What’s yours?

Alex

  1. This match is a classic, both guys are at their best. Alexi looks especially hot in those skimpy trunks, drenched in sweat. I'll definitely review this match at some point.

  2. I think we all had a crush with Alexi during his time at BGeast. I still believe he is one of the hottest guys I have ever seen. And I liked that as time passed he slipped out of his jobber role.

  3. Alexi is one of the greatest underground wrestlers. I would recommend his match against Johnny Firestorm. It's a classic worth reviewing.

  5. Hmm... Alexi's story arc at BG East is kind of what I'd hoped for Steve aka new guy over at BIGBeast: duped and destroyed musclenoob to big badass muscle dad. As for this match, I love your screen shot captions. Crack. Splat. Classic.

    1. Thanks! Yeah, Alexi’s evolution is great. Nice to see someone get better and more confident over time. Steve has been wrestling for us for almost two years but in Cave time, it’s only been a weekend. He did win a fall against Adam Alexov.

  6. That one win was fun to see. It really set up Adam's beat down. Maybe poor Steve will be allowed to whupp up on a noob sometime down the road.

  7. Walking down memory lane to reflect on Alexi just depresses me. BG East is so bad now!

    1. Aw, don’t be depressed. I think there’s still a lot to love at BGEast, even if there’s no one quite like Alexi. I was trying to think about who’d I’d compare him to, but I came up blank.

  8. Damn, I miss Alexi so much! He was the Ideal wrestler in my eyes that is so hard to find now n days. A damn Sexy Body, Wrestling skills, Able to talk game and just have a persona that leaves you wanting more. His top two favorite matches of mine were him Vs Christopher Bruce and Vs Aryx Quinn and I can easily watch those two matches over and over again. It sucks that he dropped of and disappeared. But nice Review Alex! I think I know which Alexi match to go and watch next haha!

    1. Thank you. Nice choices. It says a lot that he has so many classic matches. Until all these comments, I think I actually underestimated how awesome he was. I mean, I knew he was great, but as I’ve tried to think of a current Alexi analog, it’s really challenging.

  10. This is one of my favorite Jaxx matches from BGE. I was recently made aware that Jaxx was an indie wrestler outside of BG. Are you aware of any matches or what wrestling name he went by outside the company? I would love to check out his indie stuff!

    1. I can totally see Jaxx as an indie pro wrestler, but I have no idea what his name would’ve been.
