Review: Dax Carter vs. Spencer Hawkins (Muscleboy Wrestling)

Full disclosure: This match was provided to me by Muscleboy Wrestling.

Watching this was interesting. I’d just finished reading a (very) short story (more like an intro with the details left to the reader’s imagination) on Nifty. The story, called 'Alpha Top Seeks Taming', was incredibly descriptive as the “alpha top” narrator hunts for “a top breaker, a stallion rider, a predator who hunted equals” to manipulate him into conquering him without the “top breaker” knowing he’s actually being a willing submissive.

Huge vs. Skinny but not a squash?

The reason I mention this is because this idea was fresh in my head when I watched Dax Carter vs. Spencer Hawkins. It’s not the story of this video but it could be. Dax Carter is an alpha male. He easily dominates the much smaller Spencer Hawkins but then loses control and is dominated for a long stretch. However, he’s clearly allowing the domination (Dax does many things here, but sell convincingly is not one of them).

My mind immediately went to the alpha top who decided to try something different without the dominator knowing to keep it real. In this case, Spencer is the unwitting stud who thinks he’s getting over on a superior hunk. Dun, dun, dun.

Bicep bands come in handy.

Like he weighs nothing.

Spencer searches for a weak point.

Dax is a big man. A huge guy compared to most underground wrestlers, including young Spencer. He’s thick and solid. He’s got a quieter confidence that comes from knowing he’s a big man. His soft-spoken approach, though, might lead Spencer astray as Dax nicely asks Spencer to open the ropes for him but the roughneck twink thinks he’s allowed to decline. Uh oh.

Spencer is a good choice for this video as is his pink gear. He’s a lightweight and clearly outmanned, but he’s feisty and never lies down. He tries to fight back, but there’s no way he’s moving the big man. So, he uses his fists and lands a lucky shot to Dax’s glass jaw, sending the big man down. This sets up 10+ minutes of one-sided action where little owns big.

We know who the alpha really is.

Spencer tries whatever he can.

The big man gets offended.

Action-wise, it’s fun but kind of sloppy. Dax does a good job manhandling the lean lightweight, but Spencer is a little too eager to sell. He anticipates attacks, reacting too early. Spencer is also limited in what he can do with Dax. His offense is mainly fists and feet with some arm and leg holds thrown in. There are a couple of moments where I wondered if Dax regretted giving the lean young punk a chance, but most of it, he’s an alpha who’s also a willing submissive.

Super-plex power.

Surprise!

Dax dominated.

In the end, the story makes the video for me. Dax as victim is a nice counterbalance to his mauling of guys like Wolfboy (the last video of Dax's that I watched - reviewed here). I enjoyed watching this, even if the big man chooses not to sell it to the fullest and the smaller stud can’t really make him suffer. Spencer’s fun and bouncy with a safe amount of ‘wrong side of tracks’ edginess for his boy band good looks.

So, that’s my take. What’s yours?

Alex
